Frank & Cathy Coon

The success of houndogradio.com is a testimonial to the life story of Frank Coon. Born blind, as a child Frank dreamed of becoming a radio broadcaster. He was naïve to the reality that his blindness would be an obstacle to his becoming a broadcaster. After graduating from High School he moved to Georgia and began a fifteen-year career as a vocalist and manager in the entertainment industry.

In the spring of 1986 Frank’s life was changed by two events. First, he was struck by a van, which injured his back and forced him to rely on crutches for two years. Second, and more happily, he became aquatinted with his lovely wife, Cathy who is also blind. When Frank was again able to work he decided to pursue his childhood dream of becoming a broadcaster.

He obtained his broadcasting license from WRFGFM in Atlanta, GA in May 1989. Frank then sought employment as a radio broadcaster. Because broadcasting world was not willing to look past his disability, he was forced to take a job in the computer industry. The technological revolution known as the Internet has allowed Frank to realize his dream of becoming a radio broadcaster. In 1999 Frank began working on the concept of houndogradio.com. His wonderful wife Cathy assisted him in many ways. All of Frank’s hard work and his childhood dream of being a radio broadcaster was fulfilled in June of 2000 when houndogradio.com went on the air.

Joe Koufman

Joe has been on the air on both commercial and internet radio since 1998. He began his broadcasting career on KMTN, Jackson Hole, WY where he did a show of all New Orleans music called the Big Easy Cabaret Show with Joe. It was based on four years living in New Orleans and absorbing the music and culture there. Weekly over 6,000 listeners per quarter hour tuned in from Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. Several local record stores created Big Easy Cabaret Show with Joe sections in the shops after fans regularly requested the music played on the show.

Joe's internet broadcasting career began in 1999 when he hosted and produced a show for RadioRockstars.com. He then produced and continues to host a series of shows which can be heard at NewOrleansRadio.com. Through the Webcaster Alliance (WebCasterAlliance.com), Joe was connected with HoundogRadio.com, and as they say "the rest is history."

Eric Jefferson

Eric began his broadcasting career in 1989 with a brief stint at Camden County College's WDBK-FM in Blackwood, NJ. From there, he served an internship at WMMR in Philadelphia for a year, learning quite a bit about commercial radio. After completing his stay at WMMR, Eric finished his studies for a degree in Communications at Rowan University in New Jersey, hosting "The Rock & Roll Creation" program on WGLS in Glassboro, NJ during the early '90s.

After many years away from the mic, Eric's friend David Boyd (a.k.a. "Dangerous Dave") invited him to sit in on a broadcast of Dave’s "Monday Night Mayhem" show on HoundogRadio.com. It wasn't long before Eric once again caught the broadcasting bug and found himself with his own weekly show on HoundogRadio.com, "The Cybertoxic Lounge."

A proud new member of the Webcaster Alliance (WebCasterAlliance.com), Eric likes to bring a wide mix of classic rock from all corners of the genre to his show. “There are so many fantastic rock songs that commercial radio seems to have abandoned, for whatever reason," Eric says. "I especially enjoy it when listeners tell me they haven’t heard some of these songs in a long time and had forgotten how much they loved them."

David Boyd

David Boyd, a.k.a. "Dangerous Dave," stumbled into broadcasting in 1995 while writing for the Daily Tar Heel at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. From time to time, he would fill in on Sports Wrap, a local sports talk show on WXYC in Chapel Hill, NC.

After college, David moved back to his hometown of Asheville, NC before eventually relocating to Atlanta in 1998. It was there that he met Joe Koufman, who introduced him to HoundogRadio.com. David was quickly "recruited" himself and was soon hosting Monday Night Mayhem, bringing a mix of new rock, classic rock, and alt-country favorites.

David currently resides in Roswell, GA with his plant Clyde.

Nick Sommers

Nick "the Nixter" Sommers is the newest member of the Houndog Radio family. Originally from western Tennessee, Nick is a radio veteran who got his start at WDTM in Selmer, TN while still in his teens. He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard during his two-year tenure at WDTM before relocating to Georgia and eventually joining WIMO in Winder, GA. Nick found a home there for about 5 and ½ years, including a stint as the weekday "morning guy" at WIMO (The Nixter Morning Show), then later moving to the afternoons. He also hosted a program called Trading Time and delivered community news. The "Nixter" was an important member of WIMO's staff for several years before finding his way to us. "Houndog Radio has reminded me of how radio used to be," says Nick, "and how it was meant to be."

In addition to Friday Night Fun Tracks, Nick is also the producer for The Cowboy Way Show, a syndicated radio program dedicated to preserving the traditions of the old West.

Nick currently resides in Winder, GA.
